Do April Showers Really Bring May Flowers?

According to historians, this popular phrase may date back to a 1610 poem that contained the line “Sweet April showers, do spring May flowers.” While this adage could refer to simple botany, it could also be a way to drive the rainy-weather blahs away by focusing on the upcoming beauty of better weather ahead.

Even though the Colorado weather can be beautiful in April, it’s always advisable to put off planting anything until after Mother’s Day weekend in May. April is known for many things, like late spring break and home buying season, but it’s definitely not an ideal month for planting flowers – you could risk losing your efforts to an early May snowstorm.

April is also known for “spring fever,” so we’ve provided a few suggestions to get you out of the house this month. We hope to see you out and about, at the Rec Center, or maybe at one of the events listed below.
