June events: Long days, light hearts
The summer solstice is coming up on June 21, a happy reminder to squeeze in a few extra hours of fun on our long, gorgeous Colorado days. Now’s the time to let your inner kid out for good behavior and take advantage of these events—two of which will keep you in your very own Reunion neighborhood.
Denver Chalk Art Festival-June 6, 10am-10pm & June 7, 10am-7pm
Larimer Square is always a terrific place to noodle around, but for two days each year it transforms into a stunning museum of street art. This free event showcases the work of more than 200 artists, including five first-place finishers in the International Street Painting Competition in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy. Live music, kids’ activities, food, and drink make this a truly multi-sensory adventure. Learn more.
Colorado Renaissance Festival-Opens June 13
Entering its 39th season, the Colorado Renaissance Festival offers eight weekends of engaging time travel to the rowdy festival days of 16th century England, full of authentically costumed (and interactive) jousters and jugglers, hearty fare, and seven stages of performances. Pick up BOGO tickets for the opening weekend at Wendy’s, or hit the Royal Ale & Art Festival (with free ale samples) on June 20-21, or check out the Celtic Festival (with men’s kilt contest and hard lemonade samples) on June 27-28. Held at Perry Park in Larkspur. Learn more.
Painting on the Patio at Reunion’s Welcome Center-June 11, 7-9pm
Sorry, artistic males of Reunion. This is a ladies-only night, featuring creativity and conversation on the starlit patio of the welcome center. All painting supplies are included, but bring your own wine and/or appetizers to round out the evening. Tickets $26 District/Non-District. Sign up here.
Movie Night at Reunion -June 19, 6pm
Movies are always better when viewed from a picnic blanket. The first of Reunion’s two much-loved summer movie nights, this one features Into the Woods (PG). Showtime is at dusk, but head over at 6pm for a visit to the food trucks and a little fun and games. Held at Reunion Park. (Plan now for the next movie night on July 17th.) Learn more.
Denver Museum of Natural Science Free Day -June 29
If you haven’t visited lately, it’s time—especially on one of the museum’s free days, which give you license to stay just as long as you’d like. You’ll have plenty of reasons to linger, of course, between all the permanent exhibits and the current Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns, and Mermaids. Explore stories and uncover the truths behind the myths of the aforementioned beings, along with kraken, giant squids, flying horses, and the ever-popular Nessie and Big Foot. Learn more.
