Three Ways To Give Back This Holiday Season
Posted on 08 Dec 2020
Although 2020 has brought many new challenges, giving back to our fellow Coloradans this holiday season can be a powerful experience. Whether you support the environment, animal life, or local families, you can make a difference while remaining socially distant. We’ve rounded up three ways to get involved while sticking close to home.
Colorado Gives Day
For 24 hours starting the morning of Tuesday, December 8, join the many Coloradans who make donations to their favorite local nonprofit organizations. Held entirely online, you’ll find hundreds of worthy causes ranging from hardworking animal shelters to music and dance studios that need extra support this year. For a thoughtful gift, consider donating on behalf of a friend or family member to make the holidays merry and bright for everyone. To get started, search the list of categories — like agricultural efforts and educational funds — that you can contribute to from your home at Reunion.
Host A Drive
While volunteering in-person may not be an option for your family this year, consider calling on your friends and neighbors to fill donation boxes. Second-hand stores, volunteer organizations, and homeless shelters can all benefit from your family’s gently-used items. Since winter gear like coats, hats, and gloves are especially in-demand this time of year, clear clutter in your home by donating unwanted items. Encourage your neighbors to pack as many boxes as possible and join together to deliver them to families in need.
Donate to a Food Bank
Take action by purchasing a few extra boxes or cans of nonperishable foods while shopping for your holiday meal. Throughout the month, you’ll find donation boxes perched at your grocery store’s entrance that make it easy to donate on-the-spot. At home, pack your surplus items — like canned veggies and uncooked rice — into sturdy boxes you can hand-deliver to local food banks or ship overseas to support those serving in the military. Your donation of any size or item can benefit struggling single-parent families, those affected by COVID-19, and Colorado students in need of healthy holiday meals.
Whether you have extra time on your hands, cash in your pocket, or non-perishables in your pantry, your contribution can make a difference in Colorado. Connect with members of the Reunion community to spread cheer and lend a helping hand to as many people as possible. Have fun with socially-distant donating, stay safe, and have a happy holiday season!
