From Summer Fun to Autumn Bliss: How to Transition Your Outdoor Space
Posted on 11 Oct 2021
One of the many luxuries of Colorado life is getting to experience the best parts of all four seasons — Coloradans enjoy the cooler temps of fall just as much as we love playing in the summer sun! As the leaves glow bronze and the breeze takes on its October chill, transition your outdoor space from a summer oasis to a cozy autumn haven. Read on for recommendations to transform your own beautiful home — plus ways to enjoy the changing seasons right here in our own Reunion community.
How you upgrade your summer space will depend on the particular Reunion niche you call home, but these few tweaks work for open patios, covered porches, lawns with gardens, and artistic hardscapes. As long as you create opportunities to come together, you can’t go wrong with these easy modifications!
Blanket Them with Love — or, Literally — with Blankets.
Now is the time to put quilts and blankets everywhere — on chairs, settees, swing sets, treehouses, in baskets on the porch, barrels in the yard, and even a few just inside the door for grabbing as you head outside. Keep it low maintenance by choosing fabrics that are easy to throw into the washer and dryer. Add cushions, then celebrate with mugs of hot cider (which you can whip up easily in your gourmet kitchen).
Hang It Up
A pretty fall wreath or hanging basket on your front door adds a festive touch of fall to your porch. Once the bright blues and yellows of summer are over, layer on-trend neutrals and evergreens — or take our approach with seasonal mums, jewel tones, and a mix of fresh and faux gourds and pumpkins. Throw down a pretty plaid rug to create a coordinated look to greet your guests with a warm welcome all season long.
Cast a Warm Light
As much as we cherish seeing the stars dance in the night sky, we love seeing the faces of friends and family sharing our outdoor space too! Now is the time to hang lighting that will carry you until the spring solstice. Criss-cross antique-looking strands across your porch beams or from the edges of the patio to a central meeting point. Large LED balls can dot your lawn in spots of multicolored glow. You can even go old school with cascades of candles — though we ask you to keep these on your slate or stone patios to protect against accidental fires.
