SPRING BREAK: Unusual Day Trips Near Denver
Posted on 17 Mar 2022
The weather’s turning warmer, the mask mandates are being lifted, and Spring Break is just around the corner. The delights of Colorado beckon, from quaint mining town Idaho Springs to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Of course, there are all of the amenities right here in our own beloved Reunion community, like the Rec Center or 150 acres of parks and 10 miles of trails. Still, if you’re looking for something slightly off the beaten path, read on for unique day trips within driving distance of Reunion.
Feels Familiar
Revisit old favs with new twists. As far as special exhibits, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science currently hosts the traveling exhibition “Egypt: The Time of the Pharaohs.” Check out “Clyfford Still, Art, and the Young Mind” at Clyfford Still Museum, an exhibit co-curated with children across the Front Range ages six months to eight years in order to reveal how children think about art. And, of course, plan your first, second, or twenty-third trip to Meow Wolf: Convergence Station to explore immersive, imagination-bending worlds.
Slightly Unusual
You may have visited Royal Gorge park with a suspension bridge that soars over the Arkansas River, but the views are never the same twice. About two and a half hours away, Royal Gorge is a kid favorite for good reason — stunning natural views, a rich history going all the way back to the dinosaurs, astounding feats of engineering, and, of course, a sky coaster and zip line. Tickets include the Bridge, Gondola, Theater, and Playland.
Out of the Norm
Take in the culture of Central Asia by spending a leisurely afternoon at the Boulder Dushanbe Tea House, just 40 minutes north of Denver. This beautifully constructed building was a gift to Boulder from its Sister City, Dushanbe, in Tajikistan. More than 40 artisans spent three years creating all of the elements of the interior and exterior, from columns to tables to the stunning artistry of the wall panels. Enjoy an English-style afternoon tea or traditional tea time with small plates for a lovely Spring Break memory.
Completely Quirky
Head toward Cañon City to see southern Colorado’s very own Bishop Castle. Although you can’t find any princes or princesses here, you could still find yourself in an actual dungeon! With soaring towers, a dragon (natch), ballroom, and Eiffel-inspired observation balloon, Bishop Castle is one-of-a-kind, free, and open to all.
One of the many advantages of Reunion is that you don’t have to go very far to find adventure. Even if you decide to spend Spring Break in the comfort of your own beautiful home, you will still feel like royalty. To find your place in Reunion, contact us today!
