Summer Travel for the Family
Posted on 24 Apr 2019
Summer is just around the corner, which means family vacations are coming. Have you already picked out where you’re going? If you haven’t gotten to that part of your calendar yet, no worries — your friends at Reunion have put together a list of ideal destinations that we think you and your family would enjoy. Just remember to book soon!
Seaside, Florida
Are you looking for a relaxing beachside vacation? Seaside — a quaint little beach town in South Walton, Florida — offers turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and 16 charming beach neighborhoods. The town is known for its late-20th century New Urbanist design as well as pastel-colored bungalows with porches and white picket fences. The town center features nightly family-friendly entertainment and a row of brightly covered Airstream food trucks for a variety of food experiences.
Cannon Beach, Oregon
If West Coast beaches are closer to your idea of a coastal vacation, then you’ve probably already heard of Cannon Beach. This postcard attraction definitely delivers on the views, especially with the 235-foot Haystack Rock on the horizon. The wide, sandy expanse offers plenty of room for kids to play, fly kites, ride three-wheelers, or explore tide pools for sea life and shells.
Stockholm, Sweden
Do you love coffee? Do you love cake? Then you’ll love visiting Sweden. Here, “fika” is a required social ritual where you take a daily coffee-and-cake break with friends. The capital city of Stockholm offers an array of public art and museums, including Skansen, the world’s oldest outdoor museum. Temperatures will be in the 50s, so bring a jacket to explore the zoo, aquarium, boutiques, cafes, and Royal Palace. Be sure to check the schedule for the changing of the guard ceremony!
Carlsbad, California
Carlsbad is an excellent family destination for the kids thanks to Legoland and the Sea Life Aquarium. If you visit in May you might get to see the Flower Fields, a 50-acre hillside covered with colorful ranunculus flowers that attract yearly admirers, photographers, weddings, and wedding proposals. In addition to numerous attractions, you can live the surfer lifestyle along the South Carlsbad Beach campgrounds or experience true luxury at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort — featuring an elegant spa with a popular golf course.
Montrose, Colorado
Looking to stay local this summer? With so many amazing places to explore nearby, you may as well stay within state lines and visit Montrose in southwest Colorado for your summertime adventure. In addition to all kinds of outdoor hiking, mountain biking, and climbing, you can ride a pontoon boat along the stunning Black Canyon National Park or go off-roading at the Gunnison Gorge. While you’re out that way, hit Dinosaur, Colorado and geek out on our local prehistoric history.
Hopefully this list will get you started on your vacation planning — we also found some handy tips for traveling with kids to help make sure this will be the best family trip ever. Please share your photos when you get back — we want to see where our residents go for vacation!
